Join us for our next installment of Cocktails & Conversations at the new office of Centric designed by KEM Studio.
Centric is a Kansas City based general contractor, founded in the Crossroads Arts District in 2010. Since it’s inception eight years ago, Centric has grown to over 100 employees and over $85M per year in revenue. Centric maintains a diverse portfolio, with work in the office, hospitality, healthcare, retail, multifamily residential, industrial, and institutional markets. In addition to their large commercial projects, Centric also has a single-family residential division, and a small projects division. The residential side, known as Centric Homes, excels in renovations additions, and ground up custom home builds. The small projects side, Centric Special Ops, takes on a variety of small and unique projects from tenant improvements to playgrounds; they build it all and there is no project too small.
Due to the company’s continued growth and love for the Crossroads area, they recently made the move to a larger space and are now located as a tenant and part owner of the historic McQueeny Lock building in West Crossroads.
The building was built in 1919 and first played home to Jensen-Salsbery Laboratories, who produced veterinary drugs. Years later McQueeny Lock, an HVAC supplier, moved in giving the building is commonly recognized name. The McQueeny Lock building, now referred to as 520 West Pennway, was designated on the National Register of Historic Places and is often identified by its two unique sculptures above the original building entry.
Centric acted as contractor for the recent historical renovation bringing new life back to the building, partnering with architect KEM Studio. The design incorporates existing building features such as the heavy metal doors and central staircase and taking care of deferred maintenance items such as restoring the parapets and fixing the ceilings.
The restored structure now includes modern styling concrete floors, whitewashed brick walls, and a rooftop deck. Centric occupies the 10,000 square foot first level, with an open floor plan representing their culture of collaboration, communication and transparency.
