ABOUT ABOUT

Join Darren Black with IMA and Andrew Mendelson, FAIA with Berkley Design Professional for this informative session on legal and practice issues of BIM.

Used properly, BIM can improve a design firm’s productivity, quality, and project team relationships. Combined with the principles of Integrated Project Delivery, it can add value to the design and construction process through cost modeling and analysis, virtual building coordination, logistics and continuity, digital record documentation, and operations and maintenance.

This workshop explores the investments required in tools and technology, training, and quality management standards, processes, and protocols. Learn about the legal implications of using BIM, including its impact on the Standard of Care, controlling the use of your intellectual property, professional association tools and contract forms to manage BIM, and protecting your firm from professional liability risk.

Learning Objectives

Understand how the integrity of building design can be enhanced through Building Information Modeling (BIM), which facilitates the visualization of design solutions for building owners and users, simulates building performance intent, such as operations, energy and sustainable goals, improves quality and efficiency through coordination of design disciplines and detection/resolution of mechanical/electrical/plumbing component clashes

Learn about Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), which is a project delivery method that can maximize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication, and construction, and which fosters a collaborative approach between all project constituents in the design/construction process and can impact determination of building materials, systems, and methods to help deliver a building that meets the owner's intent and serves the end users

Understand the impacts of BIM on the design process including planning, coordination, quality management and technology; and explore its impacts on the quality, safety, and constructability of a building

Evaluate BIM contractual risks, risk management strategies, and construction contract administration responsibilities related to BIM, using the AIA E203 ™ -2013 BIM and Digital Data Exhibit, AIA G201T ™ -2013 Project Digital Data Protocol Form, and AIA G202T ™ - 2013 Project Building Information Modeling Protocol Form

This program is worth 1.5 HSW and lunch will be provided.
