Corrigan Station, 1828 Walnut Street
As we have continued to expand, it became evident that it was time to bring both Hollis + Miller offices; Overland Park and Lee’s Summit, together. The search included the consideration of 45 properties, and the final selection of Corrigan Station provided the best opportunity for a central location for our clients and staff alike. A beautiful space and the proximity for a powerful connection to the local design community added to the appeal.
It was recognized during the design that fulfilling the project goal of creating a new Hollis + Miller culture from two offices would require the intentional mixing of staff and dissolving of the visual barrier of the floor plate between our teams. Therefore, a large, central communicating stair was introduced to connect the three floors we occupy; 8, 9, and 10. This connection is essential in creating a workplace that ebbs and flows as one.
On the ninth floor is our formal entry, and the focus on our most valued asset: our people. The large Flex Culture space provides opportunities for large group collaboration, firm wide gathering, and community use. Flexibility in seating arrangements, as well as ample analog and digital collaboration tools provide our team with the opportunity to facilitate, experiment, learn and grow. Also on the ninth floor is a Rejuvenation Space; our place to gather, recharge, and unwind. Boasting refreshments, games, media and a view, this space provides a home for social interaction, team mixing and fun!
Across the three floors on both north and south ends, you will find an even dispersion of our studio teams. These studios focus on public education, private education, and higher education. Each floor also has an Innovation Incubator that serves as an alternative to the traditional closed-door conference room. Teams utilize these spaces to strategize, research and socialize. We also have various charrette, critique, and focus space that provides additional tools for design teams to engage at many levels. These incorporate marker boards, digital displays, and storage. Focus booths on the 10th floor provide a quiet and focused setting for an individual or small group to work.
Our new workplace reflects who we are and how we work. Each space reinforces the concept of team, collaboration, and balance. Our space is a stage and a tool for the people of our company to pursue the larger purpose of empowering communities through design and leadership.
