The JCCC Bird Collision Study is in its 8th year of studying window collisions and bird behaviors within the campus environment. An estimated 1 billion birds die from window collisions each year in North America, with Kansas City being in the top 10 cities for bird strike deaths. Krystal Anton, Zero Waste Coordinator, Center for Sustainability at JCCC, will speak about preventing window strikes, bird entrapment, and how building shape, landscaping, and lighting, also affect the way birds move through human centered environments, including what solutions can be implemented during the design phase, and as remediation to existing structures.
