ABOUT ABOUT

Join AIA Kansas City and USGBC Central Plains for this joint presentation on what impact the design of our buildings has on First Responders.

Tom Byrne spent his career with the KCMO Fire Department entering burning buildings, being exposed regularly to the smoke and ash-borne toxins of burning carpets, sofas, insulation, fire-treated plywood, and the countless other objects and components that we take for granted in the spaces we live and work in. His friends and family put him to rest in January after a brief battle with cancer, which is 60% more likely to kill a firefighter than any other American.

So how do you save a hero?  Ashley Perrin and Jeremy Knoll (BNIM) are joined by Matt Epperson (Shawnee Fire Department), Matt Perrin (KCMO Fire Department), and Mark Chrisman (HEI’s Fire-Dynamics Group) to discuss the intra-industry question of what impact the design of our buildings can have on the long term health of the First Responders we count on in emergencies.

Schedule:
11:30am - Registration and Lunch
12:00pm - 1:00pm - Presentation
1:00pm - 1:30pm - Discussion

This program is worth 1 HSW/GBCI credit and lunch will be provided.
