Just as plants and animals have created symbiotic relationships in their natural habitats, as designers we can combine solar and vegetative roofing to create symbiotic systems within the urban environment. Current research supports the use of not just one technology within a space, but combining technologies to maximize efficiencies and impact.
Topics will include:
1. Benefits of incorporating solar and vegetative roofing technologies and explore research that substantiates the benefit claims.
2. Explore design concepts and considerations on existing projects that are using solar and vegetative roofing in the same space.
3. Design tips to plan for maintenance and long term success of both solar panels and plant health.
4. Gain insight on ROI by comparing solar performance and the cost of solar only vs. a solar/vegetative roof combination.
