This lunch and learn will present a high-level overview of the requirements for a historic tax credit rehabilitation project. Aimed at practitioners tasked with designing adaptive re-use and rehabilitation projects for historic buildings, Elizabeth Rosin, President and CEO of Rosin Preservation will explain how to interpret the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and will illustrate some of the creative solutions we’ve seen that meet contemporary functional needs while maintaining a building’s character-defining features. The minimum 50-year threshold to be considered historic now includes buildings from the Mid-century Modern era that often have non-traditional systems and materials. As these buildings are increasingly adapted and rehabbed, practitioners and reviewers are encountering new challenges and the lack of established restoration/repair techniques. Case studies will present specific examples of the design and preservation issues that each building faced and how they were resolved to meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
